The Beatrice in Chelsea is New Yorks newest chic mixed hotel and high end rental. The long lobby makes the transition from outside to inside with light and warmth. To do so, Architect Philip Koether designed light screens 12 feet tall with exotic puffed aluminum and resin cast panels for texture and color. The screens illuminate from the inside, and block ambient light from the outside.

The Cooper Hewitt is the National Museum of Design of the Smithsonian Institute. Naturally, the first thing to greet guests is the admissions desk. As such, the desk was designed to reflect the attention to detail the museum embodies. The fascia of the desk is 1/2" thick heat curved, white laminated safety glass, which is backlight. the transaction surface is 3 ply, clear glass more than 1.5 inches thick, which gives the impression of great depth. On the practical side, other features include wire chases for the computers and security equipment, and easy service accessability.

AMFI worked closely with BB & G and the design team from the Ian Schrager group to create a modern canopy while retaining the feel of a structure that was built in 1924. The original panels were used as a guide to direct the shape of the new bronze fascia. Nearly 100% of the details and profiles were created at AMFI. Custom light fixtures were created for ease of maintenance and installation. Even after the canopy was seriously damaged by an installation crew, AMFI was able to repair the canopy on schedule to allow the hotel to open on time.
